If one day cats could design their own house, what would it look like? It would definitely revolve around comfort, observation, scratching, and play. For cats, an ideal home is not just a place to sleep—it is also a sanctuary where they can climb, explore, rest, and observe the world. If I were a cat designing my own house, I would start planning the entire space with cat furniture that looks like a tree, turning the whole house into a personal feline playground.
Humans like to arrange furniture neatly, but in the world of cats, what matters most is layered structures and diverse activity spaces. A proper home should include cat condos for indoor cats, cozy cat houses for inside, a sisal cat scratcher for scratching, and a carpet cat tower for jumping and climbing. If the space is large enough, I would even request a set of huge cat furniture, so every day could feel like exploring and resting in a forest.
1. First, I Need a Real “Cat Tree”
In a cat’s design philosophy, the center of the house is a tree. Ideally, it would be a wood cat tree with multiple platforms for climbing. Many humans choose an ordinary carpet cat tower, but if I had the choice, I would prefer a tall, stable cat tree covered with carpet for cat tree. That way, my paws would grip comfortably and I could stretch my agile body more freely.
Of course, the tree must include the scratch post, and ideally several good scratching posts for cats—durable, textured surfaces that feel satisfying to pull and scratch. 2. My House Must Have Many Hidden Spaces
Cats love high places, but they also love hidden spaces. These are the source of their sense of security. That is why my house would include many cat houses for inside. These spaces do not need to be large, but they must be quiet and safe.
In the middle of the cat tree, I would design an enclosed cat bed so that whenever I want to rest, I can curl up inside. For many cats, an enclosed cat bed with a sense of enclosure feels far more comfortable than a flat cushion. I could sink into it and enjoy the soft fabric wrapped around me.

The house should also include plants—but only houseplants safe for cats. Cats enjoy chewing on leaves, and if the plants are not safe, the design would be unacceptable.
Therefore, a responsible feline designer would decorate the room with cat safe houseplants, adding beauty to the space while allowing cats to sniff and explore safely.
6. A Cat’s House Must Have Layers
Cats dislike boring spaces. An ideal feline home must include platforms, bridges, and resting spots at different heights.
That is why I would design many cat condos for indoor cats, kitty condos, and cat tree structures. Combined with carpet cat tower designs and large huge cat furniture, the entire home would resemble a feline castle.
